Competitive Events

Are there multiple competition formats?

Yes there are. See below for an overview of both available formats.

Case Study Events

Our Case Study Events are designed to test critical thinking, information recall, and the ability to perform under pressure. Choose this event if you enjoy speaking freely about topics that interest you, or if you enjoy coming up with ideas quickly. See every Case Study Event description to see whether or not the event can be done individually or in a team. After being given your case study scenario on the day of competition, you will have 20 MINUTES to prepare, write presentation notes for yourself, and practice your pitch. Then, you will have 10 MINUTES to present a spoken solution with hand-drawn visual aids to an industry professional Judge.

Project Events

Our Project Events are designed to test information synthesis, research skills, and the ability to convey a written proposal. Choose this event if you like the flexibility of being able to structure and practice a presentation weeks/months in advance. Project Events can be done individually or with one or two partners. After being given your case scenario at the start of the JOT 2021-22 Circuit in October, you will have to prepare a SIX PAGE project overview by the January Regionals Deadline. If qualified for Nationals, you will have 15 MINUTES to present a Powerpoint project presentation to an industry professional Judge.
